THEME FOR THE MONTH: His Divine Presence (2)
TODAY’S TOPIC: Finding His Presence
KEY TEXT: Jer. 29:12-13
KEY VERSE: Jer. 29:13
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”

INTRODUCTION
Now, we have been talking about presence for so long a time. However, what do we understand by the word ‘find’?

To find someone or something means to see them or learn where they are. It means knowing the location of that one or that thing. To find something, however, one must seek it first. You find nothing, if you look for nothing. Searching is what delivers finding. Today, we shall look at how we can get Divine Presence. Since we cannot get it without searching for it, we tend to look at the ways we can effectively search for it.

Welcome to: FINDING HIS PRESENCE

1. CALL UPON HIM (Jer. 29:12)
To call someone is to say out their name or attributes loudly to them, in order to attract their attention. Whenever you call someone, you want his or her attention. One way to get Divine Presence is to call or attract the attention of God. Read Lk. 18:35-42. Many people seek divine help, yet they have not asked for it. It will be funny to need directions or answers, and not ask questions. Read Jer. 33:3. Scriptures say everyone who asks, receives (Matt 7:8). Grow in you the habit of inquiring via the place of prayer. This will not only boost your prayer life, it will also grant you hidden secrets or answers. When you call out to God, however, make sure that you do so from a clean heart. Be sincere in your need for His presence
Read also: Isa. 65:24; Ps. 145:18; Rom. 10:12-13

2. SEARCH FOR HIM (Jer. 29:13)
Anything you really search for is something that you really need. God’s Presence does not appear to all. People set out their hearts to search it out. This too, one MUST do with a sincere heart (Deut. 4:29). Bountiful benefits await the seekers (Ps. 34:10; Prov. 28:25). There is a place where Divine Presence resides. Not all know that place. You need focus if you must arrive there. You must avoid distractions. If you have ever lost ₦200 or ₦500, you will notice that the search for it began immediately. During your search, you would have seen stones, pebbles, papers, pen, cloths, books, etc. However, the search eventually continued until you saw you money. Why was this so? The money was what you were looking for, not anything else. If you really need Divine Presence, you will search for it. Now, during this search, you could find some answers, blessings, miracles, disappointments and discouragements from men on the way. Nonetheless, that is not what you seek. You must press on, till you will IT! You can only press on, when your heart is sincere.

How do you search for Divine presence?
1. PRAY and PRAY and PRAY
2. STUDY GOD’S WORD DAILY
3. Trust in God’s Strength alone (Prov. 3:5)
4. Wait for the answer, even if it tarries a little
5. Strive to DO whatever His word tells you to do
6. Ask Him always and allow Him make the decisions (Prov. 3:6)
7. Avoid distractions that may come from men or little achievements
8. Keep your heart and mind clean from contamination; clear all grievances

THEME FOR THE MONTH: His Divine Presence
    TODAY’S TOPIC: His Caring Presence
    KEY TEXT: Jer. 29:11-14
    KEY VERSE: Jer. 29:11
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

    INTRODUCTION
One of the reasons why devoted Christians greatly enjoy their walk with God is because they see God as Father. Many people only see God as a supreme being. Some funny other only see Him as a Judge. If you want to go far in your Christian walk with God, you must begin to see Him as a Father. Today, we are going to focus on the caring roles of a Dad (or rather, the caring roles of God as a Father). We will not be talking about Provision, Protection, or Guidance, since we already talked about that. These are also caring roles of a dad, although.

    Enjoy the lesson!

    1. HE DISCIPLINES
Okay, discipline sounds too harsh; maybe we should use “correct” instead. Now, most Christians do not like this part of God—the part that corrects. Any dad, who disciplines his child, loves that child. How do we know? Read Heb. 12:5-11, 2Sam. 7:14 and Rev. 3:19. Many people have died in their sins. However, God chose to correct you instead. Now, which would you prefer, to die or to be corrected?

What are the benefits of discipline you ask…?

    • It is a proof that you are son of God. Carefully read Rom. 1:21-32. From that portion of scripture, you see that God has allowed some other to roam about in their sins. These ones are not sons, but bastards. God does not correct them, and so they are vulnerable to dirty sins and their consequences. Dear brethren, if God punishes you for sin, it is because he loves you and wants you to change.
    • God also wants you to grow. This is one of the reasons why He corrects. Correction gives birth to maturity. Let us look into Heb. 12:10-11. Correction it is that makes you more sensible. Correction shines a man. Confirm this truth from Prov. 13:18; 29:15 & 17. Correction can leave a lasting impression on a child. In Scriptures, God corrected Jonah (Jonah 1:17; 2:1 & 10). He also corrected David (2Sam. 12:13-14), and many others.

    ScriptureQuote:
Correction is a lot of the wise and matured!

    theTASK:
Imagine you are a parent and have a child affected by the cancer virus on the right thigh. Your doctor tells you that the only solution is to get the leg amputated, or the child would die. What would you do?

    PRAYERS:
    1. Thank God for His word
    2. Ask that God’s mercy be shown to you
    3. Ask God to treat you as His child, correcting and growing you
    4. Pray for all members of COD nationwide

    KEY TEXT: Dan. 3:1-30
    KEY VERSE: Gen. 39:2a
“And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man”

    INTRODUCTION
The last time, we were looking at the presence of God that could lead. We know that the very presence of Yahweh offers so many benefits. One of such is protection. Jehovah keeps His own. Not one of those who trust in Him shall ever be moved.

    Enjoy the lesson!

GOD DOES NOT JUST GRANT SAFETY; GOD IS SAFETY!
Many people run to men for protection. In schools and the society, young males join dirty cliques (sometimes, even cults) for the dual aims of recognition and protection. Scripture have called as foolish, any attempt to seek covering from mortals. Our safety, as Christians, is of the Lord. Read Isaiah 31:1-3. Consider the cry of Nebuchadnezzar, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God” (Dan. 3:25). He noticed four persons in the fire. Because God was with the Hebrew boys, even Nebuchadnezzar observed that the boys had “no hurt”. Check out the story of Daniel in Dan. 6:22. An angel had to come into the den to shut the mouth of lions. Christians must see the God in them as safety. Read Ps. 91:1.

GOD IS SAFETY; THESE VERSES DECLARE IT

      1. Acts 28:3-5
      2. Ps. 91:11-13
      3. Ps. 37:24
      4. Ps. 34:7

THEME FOR THE MONTH: His Divine Presence
TODAY’S TOPIC: Accessing His Presence (2)
    KEY TEXT: Gen. 39:1-23
    KEY VERSE: Gen. 39:2a
“And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man”

    INTRODUCTION
Accepting God and Loving Him are two sure steps to access His Divine Presence. However, we have not completed the lists of things we must do or steps we must take. Today, we look at two other points: Guarding your Heart and Chasing after God. These two things will not only grant you access to the Presence of God, but will also sustain your presence before God.

    Enjoy!

    3. GUARD YOUR HEART
In the book of Proverbs (4:23), Scriptures say that the issues of one’s life flow from the heart. This how you keep your sacredness before God. God is no respecter of persons. Your holiness matters more to Him than your many years of Christian service.

    TWEET QUOTE!

You must be very careful not to ruin your faith. Read Mark 14:38. You must watch out against sinful friends, demonic thoughts, lustful desires and selfish interests. The grace is released, but this watching is done by you alone. You must be very deliberate about your Christian life.
Read also: Deut. 4:9; Mark 7:21-23.

READ MORE ON GUARDING YOUR HEART HERE!

    4. CHASE AFTER GOD
People who really enjoy the fully of God are those who truly chase after Him. If God becomes your desire every day and night, then you will be His friend/partner every now and then. These people, who have God in front of them always, are known as GOD-CHASERS! In 1Tim. 6:11, Paul told Timothy the things after which he must follow. In Prov. 18:17, God was clear when He spoke, “…those that seek me early shall find me”. David cried out to God, “I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land” (Ps. 143:6).

    KEY TEXT: Gen. 39:1-23
    KEY VERSE: Gen. 39:2a
“And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man”

    INTRODUCTION
Over the weeks, we have looked into the goodies attached to being with God. Those are the very little we can behold. However, there is much more. “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” — 1Cor. 2:9. The bounties that follow the presence are numerous to mention, and overwhelming to understand.

Today, however, we look at ways we can get this Presence. No result just comes; results are provoked. How do we provoke the release of Divine Presence?

    1. OPEN YOUR DOOR
Many young people deliberately shut the door of their hearts to Christ. This is because they think being a Christian is boring. They are attracted to all the fun-promising things of life. However, Christianity does not stop fun; it only channels it rightly. Wouldn’t you enjoy getting first-hand secrets about your life and that of others from God Himself? How do you like to be guaranteed 100% protection? All you need to do is open up and let God. Christianity is NOT a call to suffering; it is a call to sonship. God really wants to care for you. However, He cannot. Why? Because family benefits are only enjoyed by family members. To enjoy the benefits we have seen, you must be a family member (Jn. 1:12). You should… You have to be saved. And if you want to, right now is the time (2Cor. 6:2).

Pray the prayer of salvation now before you continue studying. Ask God to forgive you of your sins. Ask Jesus to come into your life and take total control. Ask Him to be your personal Saviour and Lord.

    Read also: Prov.14:12; Jn. 3:14-18; Jn. 3:36; Heb. 7:25

    2. LOVE GOD
You would do almost for the sake of love. Unfortunately, however, young people have decided to love the wrong things. That is why you see them going the extra mile just to get the satisfaction they think they deserve. On the other hand, anyone who loves God will always want to follow Him, be with Him, and please Him. Your love for God will make you:

    • a. Listen to Him and obey Him always. You would not want to disobey God, if you love Him. You would always want to hear His voice. You would listen to everything He says and do them. One way to listen to God is by reading His word (The Bible) daily.
      – Jn. 14:23; Josh. 1:8; Ps. 1:2, 119:11
    • b. Talk to Him always. If you love God, you will always want to talk to Him. You would share with Him your pains and success stories. You would seek advice, direction and support from Him whenever you are confused. You would pray.

    KEY TEXT: Gen. 39:1-23
    KEY VERSE: Gen. 39:2a
“And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man”

    INTRODUCTION
Nothing on the earth comes without its reward. Whatever a man does, whatever his adventure, it is all because of the rewards (whether great or small, short-term or long-term) attached to it. Okay, lets reason:
*Why do you go to school?
*Why do you learn that trade?
    *Why do you forgive?
    *Why do you save?
Therefore, it is undeniably true that there is a benefit attached to whatsoever we willingly set out to do.

Today, we look at the benefits that come with having God around you. Take down notes from this; God is sure going to bless you.

    1. PROSPERITY (vs. 2)
Many persons think that the fastest way to plenty is via saving much money. Some of us think that the quickest way to wealth in embedded in connections. Others would have loved to have a huge sum of money as capital, as they think it is the route to massive riches. Actually, the fastest way to abundance is inheritance.

    TWEET QUOTE!

When you are an heir to something, you do nothing to have it—no work, no connections, and no nothing! See how that relates to you in Ps. 106:5. Now check out verse 3 of our text (Gen. 39:3). Notice how the presence of God with Joseph caused him to prosper. Do you see what God does here? He makes you an heir to his riches, if He is with you. When you carry God’s presence, prosperity just comes on you—you do nothing else to earn it. Read 2Chrn. 26:5.
Read also: Ps. 1:1-3; Eph. 4:19; Matt. 6:33

    2. FAVOUR (vs. 4)
Divine Favour is a function of Divine Presence.

    TWEET QUOTE!

Presence births favour! Have you ever met someone before, and you just love them, and shower them with gifts? Could it be that you do not know why you just love them? Have you ever encountered favour like this before, that someone would just like you and bless you with support and substance? Ask people who carry Divine Presence, they will tell you that it is not new to them. Check out Gen. 39:21. See that! Anywhere Joseph went, he was liked. Compare this benefit to that of Daniel in Dan. 1:8-9. Because Daniel went with his God everywhere (even in exile), his God gave him favour everywhere (even in exile).

    INTRODUCTION
It is very important we understand that the tool that has been given to us—prayer—is something beyond description. One of the sweet things about prayer is this: whatever prayers cannot solve, nothing and no one can!

    TWEET QUOTE!

Today, we attempt to look into some more benefits of prayer. We try as much as possible to look at the basic benefits. For the advantages of this weapon cannot be exhausted in a list. Let us see some of them…

    5. FORGIVENESS OF SINS
Human beings are NOT perfect. We make mistakes. No one can claim to be perfectly holy before God. And that is why we need prayer. The Christian that loves his Lord will not allow an hour pass by and he has not reconciled with Him, anytime he is guilty. Read 2Chrn. 7:14. There it records that deliverance and forgiveness of sins will come after God’s people has prayed and sought His face.
Read also: Prov. 28:13; Isa. 55:6-7

    6. A WAY TO HELP OTHERS
Jesus admonished us to let our light shine. The call to Christianity is a call to bring glory to God through our daily living. One of the ways we can do this is by praying for others. In fact, one of the greatest gifts you can give to one is the gift of intercession.

    TWEET QUOTE!

Many people suffer on a daily basis. One of the ways we can help them is to pray for them. Read James 5:14-16. See that? Prayer works for others as well. You may not be able to pay the hospital bills; but you can tell God about the case. You can help, if only you can pray.

    INTRODUCTION

It was very clear to us on Sunday last week that prayer comes load with benefits. Some of these benefits include peace of mind and support in the form of comfort and strength. Making prayer a habit is something that we Christians must learn. The benefits come to those who practise this act regularly, to those who make it a lifestyle. However, there are more benefits of prayer than we saw last week.

    3. GUIDANCE TO MAKE WISE DECISIONS
If you have ever been in a situation in which you have to make a difficult choice or decision, you will appreciate the importance of prayer. Wisdom is very important to succeed through life. It could be about a career or job, a spouse or child, an answer or something else…but we always need to (or want to) make the right call. Prayer can help us. It says in James 1:5 that anyone who needs wisdom should ask from God. He will answer, and provide wisdom. Check out Prov. 2:3-6. In 2Chrn. 1:10, Solomon made this same request for wisdom. Of course, it was given him.

    4. HELP TO AVOID TEMPTATION
    Read Luke 22:40.
People who do not regard the place of prayer will keep falling into temptations. No tempting can stand the place of prayer. Even Jesus Himself knew that enough to warn us beforehand. Brother, sister, whenever you feel the urge to sin or disobey God, just kneel down and pray; talk to God. Ask Him for strength to pull through. Remember that it is not of him that willeth or of him that runneth. It is all about GOD. The Psalms is full of requests made to God concerning this matter. Some of these reference scriptures are noted below:

    INTRODUCTION

Prayer is more than a mental therapy. Prayer is more than an act. It is more than a request.

    TWEET QUOTE!

All these we have been able to grasp about prayer. However, no one embarks on a journey unless it is going to pay off one way or the other. Now, the question: what can prayer do for you? We have seen what prayer is and what it involves. Now let us see the goodies it comes with.
What can prayer do for you?

    1. PEACE OF MIND
Sometimes, problems and challenges appear in our lives. What do you do then? It is also at these times that the Bible advices you to “pray without ceasing” (1Thess. 5:17) and make your requests known before God (Phil. 4:6). Then, we can enjoy the peace of God that guards our hearts and minds (Phil. 4:7). Read Ps. 55:22. God wants to support, but first, we have to tell Him to.

    2. COMFORT & STRENGTH WHEN FACING TRIALS
    Read 2Cor. 1:3-4.
See that? He is called the God of all comfort. When facing stress or unbearable conditions and circumstances, you can pray to Him “Who comforteth us in all our tribulation”. In Luke 22:41, 43, we are tells us that Jesus Himself received strength after praying, when he was greatly distressed. Neh. 6:9, 15-16 also gives the example of another man who prayed to God saying, “Strengthen my hands”. And his God heard him.

THEME FOR THE MONTH: Living Prayerfully
    TODAY’S TOPIC: What Prayer Involves
    KEY TEXT: Ps. 55:16-17
    KEY VERSE: Ps. 55:17
“Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice”

    INTRODUCTION
A true Christian understands the importance of praying often. He prays every time and just about everything. He understands that no relationship survives outside communication—no, not even a relationship with his Heavenly Father. However, what is it with this prayer thing? Why do we need to pray? Why must it be always too?
This is because Christianity is not possible alone. To run this race, we definitely need the help of the Father. After all, the journey seems shorter when there is someone to talk to while on it. Listed below are the reasons why we pray.

    1. CONFESSION
When we read Prov. 28:13, we see that confession should be a necessary part of a Christian. We are never perfect. Therefore, when we err, we must prayerfully seek God’s forgiveness and wholeheartedly turn away from our sins. David was a man after the heart of God, not because he did not sin, but because he always confessed whenever he did. Do not wait for the pastor or elder in church; you can—in fact, you should—knee and ask for forgiveness immediately you sin against God.

    2. THANKSGIVING
Read Ps. 107:1. True Christians know that thanksgiving should be a lifestyle. Immediately you received deliverance from that accident; as soon as you get that admission; even before you see that promotion; or for that healing. Come on, you can just stop for a minute and ‘prayerfully’ thank God for whatever it is that you have received from Him. According to Tye Tribbett, God does not need our thanks, but He deserves it. How would you feel if you handed money to someone and they did not thank you? Disappointed, right? That is how God feels anytime you do not thank Him for what He has done for you.

    3. PRAISE
Any chronic reader of the Psalms knows that it is a book of praise. Folks who truly understand the value of this GOD wrote it. They understood that this ever-faithful God deserves a never-ending praise. For instance, let us look at chapter 34 verse 1 of this book:

“I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
    (Emphasis added)

Note the use of the word, “continually”. Giving praise is very different from giving thanks. We thank when we received a favour or blessing from God. We praise when we think of Him. It would be better to say it this way: we thank God for what He has done; we praise Him for Who He is! Sometimes, we just need to praise God. Just think of anything: His mercy, His promptness, His providence, His goodness, etc. Sometimes we need to praise God just because He is God.
